Surface epitopes of M. gallisepticum

Mycoplasma gallisepticum (Mg) is a bacterium belonging to the class Mollicutes and the family Mycoplasmataceae. It is the causative agent of chronic respiratory disease (CRD) in chickens and infectious sinusitis in turkeys, chickens, game birds, pigeons, and passerine birds, causing some levels of mortality. Isolates of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (Mg) vary widely in their pathogenicity depending on the nature of the isolate, its method of propagation, and the number of passages. Among Mg strains significant differences have also been observed in their tissue tropism, transmission and in the immune response they induce.
