Introduction

CDH4 (R-cadherin) is a member of the cadherin family of calcium-dependent glycoproteins that mediate cell adhesion and regulate many morphogenetic events during development. CDH4 is involved in retinal angiogenesis during development where it plays a crucial role in the endothelial-astrocyte interactions.

Function

Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. May play an important role in retinal development.
