HILS1

This locus is the ortholog of a mouse protein-coding gene that displays characteristics of a linker histone and is expressed in nuclei of late maturing spermatids. The human locus is expressed; however, the open reading frame has been disrupted by a frameshift so it is unlikely to encode a functional protein.
Full Name
Histone Linker H1 Domain, Spermatid-Specific 1 (Pseudogene)
Function
DNA-binding protein that may be implicated in chromatin remodeling and/or transcriptional regulation during spermiogenesis, the process of spermatid maturation into spermatozoa.
