THBS2

THBS2 belongs to the thrombospondin family. It is a disulfide-linked homotrimeric glycoprotein that mediates cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. It has been shown to play a role as a potent inhibitor of tumor growth and angiogenesis. Studies of the mouse counterpart suggest that this protein may modulate the cell surface properties of mesenchymal cells and be involved in cell adhesion and migration.
Full Name
Thrombospondin 2
Function
Adhesive glycoprotein that mediates cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. Ligand for CD36 mediating antiangiogenic properties.

Involvement in disease
Intervertebral disc disease (IDD):
A common musculo-skeletal disorder caused by degeneration of intervertebral disks of the lumbar spine. It results in low-back pain and unilateral leg pain.
