Target

Full Name
copine VI (neuronal)
Introduction
This gene encodes a member of the copine family. Members of this family are calcium-dependent, phospholipid-binding proteins with C2 domains, two calcium- and phospholipid-binding domains. This protein is thought to be brain-specific and has a domain structure of two N-terminal C2 domains and one von Willebrand factor A domain. It may have a role in synaptic plasticity. Calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein that plays a role in calcium-mediated intracellular processes.

Alternative Names
copine-6; N-copine; copine VI (neuronal)
Function
Calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein that plays a role in calcium-mediated intracellular processes. Binds phospholipid membranes in a calcium-dependent manner (By similarity).

Plays a role in dendrite formation by melanocytes (PubMed:23999003).

Cellular Location
Endosome; Cell membrane; Cytoplasm; Clathrin-coated vesicle; Perikaryon; Dendrite. Mainly cytoplasmic in absence of calcium. Associated predominantly with membranes in presence of calcium. Translocates to the cell membrane in a calcium-dependent manner. Colocalized with transferrin in intracellular clathrin-coated membrane vesicles in a calcium-dependent manner.
