Target

Full Name
Death Inducer-Obliterator 1
Introduction
In mice, the death inducer-obliterator-1 gene is upregulated by apoptotic signals and encodes a cytoplasmic protein that translocates to the nucleus upon apoptotic signal activation. When overexpressed, the mouse protein induced apoptosis in cell lines growing in vitro. DIDO1 is similar to the mouse gene and therefore is thought to be involved in apoptosis. Apoptosis, a major form of cell death, is an efficient mechanism for eliminating unwanted cells and is of central importance for development and homeostasis in metazoan animals.

Alternative Names
Death Inducer-Obliterator 1; Death-Associated Transcription Factor 1; C20orf158; DATF-1; DATF1; DIO-1; Death Associated Transcription Factor 1; Chromosome 20 Open Reading Frame 158; Death-Inducer Obliterator 1;
Function
Putative transcription factor, weakly pro-apoptotic when overexpressed (By similarity).

Tumor suppressor. Required for early embryonic stem cell development.

Isoform 2:
Displaces isoform 4 at the onset of differentiation, required for repression of stemness genes.
Biological Process
Apoptotic signaling pathway Source: Ensembl
Transcription, DNA-templated Source: InterPro
Cellular Location
Cytoplasm; Spindle; Nucleus. Translocates to the nucleus after pro-apoptotic stimuli (By similarity). Translocates to the mitotic spindle upon loss of interaction with H3K4me3 during early mitosis.
