G3BP2

G3BP2 (GTPase activating protein binding protein 2) is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the G3BP2 gene. G3BP2 has activities of nucleic acid binding and nucleotide binding. An important paralog of this gene is G3BP1.
Full Name
G3BP2
Function
Scaffold protein that plays an essential role in cytoplasmic stress granule formation which acts as a platform for antiviral signaling.
Biological Process
Cytoplasmic sequestering of NF-kappaB Source: UniProtKB
Innate immune response Source: UniProtKB-KW
mRNA transport Source: UniProtKB-KW
Positive regulation of stress granule assembly Source: UniProtKB
Protein homooligomerization Source: UniProtKB
Ras protein signal transduction Source: UniProtKB
Stress granule assembly Source: InterPro
Cellular Location
Cytoplasm; Stress granule
PTM
Arg-457 and Arg-468 are dimethylated, probably to asymmetric dimethylarginine.
(Microbial infection) Cleaved by foot-and-mouth disease virus leader protease; this cleavage suppresses the formation of cytoplasmic stress granules.
