KRT25

This gene encodes a member of the type I (acidic) keratin family, which belongs to the superfamily of intermediate filament (IF) proteins. Keratins are heteropolymeric structural proteins which form the intermediate filament. These filaments, along with actin microfilaments and microtubules, compose the cytoskeleton of epithelial cells. Woolly hair autosomal recessive 3 (ARWH3):
A hair shaft disorder characterized by fine and tightly curled hair. Compared to normal curly hair that is observed in some populations, woolly hair grows slowly and stops growing after a few inches. Under light microscopy, woolly hair shows some structural anomalies, including trichorrhexis nodosa and tapered ends. Some individuals may present with hypotrichosis.
