METAP1

METAP1 (Methionyl Aminopeptidase 1) is a Protein Coding gene. Among its related pathways are Phototransduction and Signaling by GPCR. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include hydrolase activity and metalloexopeptidase activity. An important paralog of this gene is METAP1D.
Full Name
METHIONYL AMINOPEPTIDASE 1
Function
Cotranslationally removes the N-terminal methionine from nascent proteins. The N-terminal methionine is often cleaved when the second residue in the primary sequence is small and uncharged (Met-Ala-, Cys, Gly, Pro, Ser, Thr, or Val). Required for normal progression through the cell cycle.
