Detection of 3OHKYN modification in HLE-B3 cells. Cells cultured on chamber slides were treated with 200 _x005f_x0004_M 3OHKYN in MEM (A) or MEM alone for 24 h (B). Cells were fixed and incubated with the anti-KLH-3OHKYN monoclonal antibody (panels 1 and 7) or with non-immune mouse IgG (panel 4). Introduction
3-Hydroxykynurenine is a metabolite of tryptophan, which filters UV light in the human lens. Hydroxykynurenine is a free radical generator and a bioprecursor quinolinic acid which is a endogenous excitotoxin. It is a product of enzyme kynurenine 3-monooxygenase in the tryptophan catabolism pathway.
