Target

Introduction
The multi-pass membrane protein encoded by this gene belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 3 family and GABA-B receptor subfamily. Martin et al. (2001) determined that the human GPR51 gene, which they called GABA(B)R2, spans more than 350 kb and contains 2.8-kb of coding region in 19 exons. By radiation hybrid analysis, Ng et al. (1999) localized the GPR51 gene to chromosome 9, proximal to HSN1 (162400). Using a genomic GPR51 clone for fluorescence in situ hybridization, Martin et al. (1999) located GPR51 on chromosome 9q22.1. The GABA-B receptors inhibit neuronal activity through G protein-coupled second-messenger systems, which regulate the release of neurotransmitters, and the activity of ion channels and adenylyl cyclase. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type B receptors inhibit neuronal activity through G protein-coupled second-messenger systems, which regulate the release of neurotransmitters and the activity of ion channels and adenylyl cyclase.
