Alpha and beta subunits, or gamma and delta subunits, are the antigen specific T cell receptor. The majority of T cells are expressed in the blood, lymph and secondary lymphatic organs with alpha to beta heterodimers whereas there is a limited number of gamma ordelta heterodimers which are primarily located in epithelial tissue and infection sites.
