Target

Full Name
mutS homolog 5 (E. coli)
Introduction
This gene encodes a member of the mutS family of proteins that are involved in DNA mismatch repair or meiotic recombination processes. This protein is similar to a Saccharomyces cerevisiae protein that participates in meiotic segregation fidelity and crossing-over. This protein forms heterooligomers with another member of this family, mutS homolog 4. Alternative splicing results in four transcript variants encoding three different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq]

UniProt ID
Alternative Names
DKFZp434C1615; G7; MGC2939; MutSH5; NG23
Function
Involved in DNA mismatch repair and meiotic recombination processes. Facilitates crossovers between homologs during meiosis (By similarity).
Biological Process

Involvement in disease
Premature ovarian failure 13 (POF13):
An ovarian disorder defined as the cessation of ovarian function under the age of 40 years. It is characterized by oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea, in the presence of elevated levels of serum gonadotropins and low estradiol.
