Target

Full Name
testis specific protein, Y-linked 1
Introduction
TSPY1 is found only in testicular tissue and may be involved in spermatogenesis. Many functional paralogs and pseudogenes of TSPY1 are present in a cluster in humans, but only a single, nonfunctional orthologous gene is found in mouse.

UniProt ID
Alternative Names
Testis Specific Protein, Y-Linked 1; Cancer/Testis Antigen 78; TSPY; CT78; Testis-Specific Y-Encoded Protein 1; Testis Specific Protein, Y-Linked; PJA923; DYS14
Function
May be involved in sperm differentiation and proliferation.

Nucleus
Predominantly cytoplasmic. Also found in nucleus.
Involvement in disease
TSPY is located in the gonadoblastoma critical region and is preferentially expressed in tumor germ cells of gonadoblastoma specimens. Expression also correlates with testicular seminoma and tumorigenesis of the prostate gland.
PTM
Phosphorylated.
