Target

Full Name
THOP1 Gene(Protein Coding) Thimet Oligopeptidase 1
Introduction
THOP1 is a kininase that uses zinc as a cofactor. The encoded oligopeptidase cleaves cytosolic peptides, making them unavailable for display on antigen-presenting cells. THOP1 also cleaves neuropeptides under 20 aa in length and can degrade beta-amyloid precursor protein to amyloidogenic peptides.

Alternative Names
Thimet Oligopeptidase 1; Endopeptidase 24.15; EC 3.4.24.15; MP78; Thimet Oligopeptidase; MEPD_HUMAN; EC 3.4.24; EP24.15; TOP
Function
Involved in the metabolism of neuropeptides under 20 amino acid residues long. Involved in cytoplasmic peptide degradation (PubMed:7639763, PubMed:17251185).
Able to degrade the amyloid-beta precursor protein and generate amyloidogenic fragments (PubMed:7639763, PubMed:17251185).
Also acts as a regulator of cannabinoid signaling pathway by mediating degradation of hemopressin, an antagonist peptide of the cannabinoid receptor CNR1 (By similarity).
