Target

Full Name
Golgin A5
Introduction
GOLGA5 is one of the golgins, a family of proteins localized to the Golgi. GOLGA5 is a coiled-coil membrane protein that has been postulated to play a role in vesicle tethering and docking. Translocations involving GOLGA5 and the ret proto-oncogene have been found in tumor tissues.
Entrez Gene ID
UniProt ID
Alternative Names
RFG5; GOLIM5; ret-II
Function
Involved in maintaining Golgi structure. Stimulates the formation of Golgi stacks and ribbons. Involved in intra-Golgi retrograde transport.
Biological Process
Golgi organization Source: UniProtKB
Golgi vesicle transport Source: UniProtKB
Retrograde transport, vesicle recycling within Golgi Source: GO_Central
Cellular Location
Golgi apparatus membrane. Found throughout the Golgi, both on cisternae and, at higher abundance, on the tubulo-vesicular structures of the cis-Golgi network.
Involvement in disease
A chromosomal aberration involving GOLGA5 is found in papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs). Translocation t(10;14)(q11;q32) with RET. The translocation generates the RET/GOLGA5 (PTC5) oncogene.
Topology
Cytoplasmic: 2-698
Helical: 699-719
Lumenal: 720-731
PTM
Highly phosphorylated during mitosis. Phosphorylation is barely detectable during interphase.
